Questions

Questions, answered

What is Jeeran Social Club?

A volunteer-run, not-for-profit club for Syrian and Arabic-speaking families in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, incorporated in Victoria in August 2022. “Jeeran” means “neighbours” in Arabic.

Who is Jeeran for?

Families who speak Arabic and enjoy our food, traditions and family gatherings. Our events are mostly in Arabic. If that sounds like you, come and meet us.

How do I join?

Talk to us on WhatsApp or by email, or come along to one of our events. Meet the families, enjoy the food and see if Jeeran feels like home. Membership is free.

How will I hear about events?

Every event is announced first in our WhatsApp community. Upcoming events also appear under Coming up on this website, and most are booked through TryBooking.

Where do events happen?

Mostly in Doncaster, Doncaster East and Box Hill, with some events elsewhere in Melbourne. The venue is listed with each event and on its booking page.

Does it cost anything?

Membership is free. Events are ticketed at cost to cover the venue and food, and children under five are usually free.

Are there events for women?

Yes. Women-only evenings with music and home-made food run through the year, and in Ramadan we hold Taraweeh prayers for women.

Can my organisation work with the club?

Yes. We welcome partners and sponsors for events, and businesses offering discounts to member families. Email the committee to start the conversation.
